COROMANDEL.
[ruosi OUR OWH CORRESPONDENT.] AllgUßt l't. A medical gentleman, lately arrived from " home," has chosen Coromandel as his " field," so that should ho be permanently located here, bis presence would be likely to bo a boon to the district. There is no particular news to bo related of our diggings, the news from the lvapanga is much the same as usual— satisfactory, as regards the yield of gold, and also, as is now tir/l known, as to its measurement. Tho roads progress but slowly, the building of Bome of the bridg.-s has been very properly stopped, by the Superintendent of tho Road-Making, tho contractors having neglected to send the tar requisite for that part of the works that are underground ; he has been warned to do so, and has not taken any notice of tho warning, and hence the suspension. August 15. I have jnst heard that the road party are about to "strike work," owing, I understand, to the nonreceipts of sums due. August IG. At an unusually early hour this afternoon, the p.g. Novelty rounded the heads under eteam and canvas, she" brought several passengers; the alterations that the inward economy of the vessel has lately undergone, hare rendered her a very comfortable passenger boat ; aswell as I can recollect, X should fancy that tho cabin of the Novelty, is of greater length and breadth than th Tasraanian Maid, although not so lofty possibly.
