OTAGO.
We have our dates to August 5. We extract the following from the D>ubj Tint's : — THE I'OLT.IXG FOB THE SUL'ERI.VTEN'DENCY. There can be no doubt that Mr. Thomas Dick has been elected Superintendent of Otago, to lill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. John Hyde Harris. In IJiinedin proper Mr. Dick has received exactly 500 votes to Mr. M'Q-lashan's 300. Mr. Dick has thus a majority of 191 in the city, or very nearly three times that of Mr. Harris at the content on the oth of April, ISG3, when the numbers were — Harris, 202 ; Kiehardson, ISS, or a majority of 07 only, so far as Dunedin was concerned. It is not likely that Mr. Dick's advantage in the city will bo materially diminished by retuais from the country districts. The voting in the suburbs has increased tlie majority, and the chances are iti favour of the country doing the same ; so that Mr. Djck and his friends' may with confidence await the oilicial declaration on Friday next, assured that they have been victorious.
