our-: O\VS (.'OKKKspOXDtW.] August 10. f srrrosn we ought to be content with our means of erenmuuication with Auckland, for we have now three schooners running, and the emulation between the rival owners hau been quite amusing during the past week, opposition placards being posted, and one even going the length of having a Maori bellman earrving a Voard setting firth the superiority of his vessel and orthography, and offering to pav the hotel bills of any passengers waiting for his vessel. Meanwhile tho inhabitants aie all wishing for a steamer, for the schooners defend for freight "n the owners ot cattle, who will not ship while there is a head wind, and so the vessels a*e kept King in harbour, and all >ail together, as is t.'ie case to-day, and eo wo arc no better oil" than if we had only one, though a steamer, unless she came direct without calling at intermediate ports, would be little or no betfr. We aro having splendid weather and so tho roads are progressing. I have hfard nothing new from the coal-li-'lds lately, but I believe tlu'y aro getting oil very favorably.
