Mary Tlm-iting, n wretched looking woman, was cluirgcd with stealing a watch and chain from JUr. T. Muir, grooer, of \Vujt Qu.'en-strept. Thomas Muir said : T know the prisoner by her coining into my place on Wednesday evening last ahont eight oVlork. T did not invite lu*r i:it^► the house. L found her in the bedroom. 1 had been sitting in the kitchen. I heard footsteps which caused me to go into the bedroom. I found the prisoner sitting 011 the couch. I immediately put her out in tho street. I did not miss anything immediately after putting her out, but I was informed by a person tluit she had been seen putting a watch into the leg of tier stocking. I then missed my watch. I had my watch in my pocket immediately before putting the prisoner into the street. I saw the watch next ns Constable Murphy lvns picking the prisoner up. She had dropped tho watch and I saw Constable Murphy pick it up also. [Watch produced.] This is my watch, and is the same I had in my pocket when I was putting the prisoner into the street, 'the value of it is iM- 10s. Robert Oondron deposed to seeing tho prisoner put tho watch into her stocking. Prisoner said she had seen tho prosecutor many times, but did not know him, nor had ever seen his house to the best of her knowledge. She was drunk at the time, aud remembered nothing whatever of the occurrence.
