WANGAREI.
By the arrival of the Smuggler, yesterday, wc have later advices from this district. The native chief Huiha (alias Maunsell) was buried at three o'clock on Monday last, the Kev. Mr. Cottle reading the burial service. I lie funeral cortege was followed by Mr. Aubrey, K.M.. Mr. Walton, and all the influential settlers there ; as also a large gathering of natives, who assembled from Wairoa, Knipara, and the surrounding distriets. The chief Te Karau is spoken of as L'uiha's successor. 1 large Rccabite meeting was held on Monday evening Inst. Mr. B. M'Laughlin in the chair, when the society was formed, and a number of persons joined the order.
