The s.g. Sir John Burgoyne, which loft Auckland on Thursday evening last, arrived at Tauranga on Friday at noon having had fine weather all the way down. She left Tauranga on Sunday morning at 8 o'clock and arrived in harbour at 11 a.m. yesterday. The Sir John Burgoyne went down for the purpose of removing the troops from Tauranga to Maketu, but owing to the threatening appearance of afFaira', Colonel Greer thought it would not bo advisable to remove them. Wi Thompson is supposed to be at the back of the ranges with a large force. The troop 3 are in daily expectation of an attack, being under arms every morning at 5 o'clock. Pas-engers —Mr. and Master Foley. The brig Western Star, for Sydney, and the schooner Sea Breeze, for 'Russell, both sailed yesterday. The schooner Helen, arrived yesterday from Wangaroa, with a full cargo of produce. The Novelty, steamer, lately purchased by our enterprising townsman, Mr. S. Cochrane, commenced running to the North Shore yesterday morning, and made two trips to the Flagstaff, when a feed pipe broke. After repairing damages she returned to town at hatf-paßt 5 in the evening. The steamer Waitemata was running all day yesterday to the North Shore, having made 11 trips, and carried about 1500 pleasure-seekers. She ran twice V> Stoke's Point, once to Shoal Bay, six times to the Flagstaff, and twice outside the Heads to Takapuna. The embarking and disembarHng, however, bad to be prosecuted under difficulties, the tide being low nearly all day, consequently the pleasure-seekers had to disembark in small boats or stay on board.
