To the Editor of tho New Zealand Herald. Sib, —Amongst many others I joined in the excursion of the Walternate to the Lake. Only this morning we wevo landed at Barry's wharf, where the captain informed ub he would return in the evening, according to tho advertisement, at about six o'clock. At the appointed time I found a great number of people assembled, and anxiously awaiting the steamer, when,

to the surprise of all, the steamer called at Heath's ■wharf, till hoping that she -would come to fetch us, you may ivell imagine our astonishment and.distress when we found she steamed directly to town aud loft us behind. Against such conduct of the captain there i Q uo possible excuse, as the t'de was making almost full, and there was more v .-iter at Barry's than in the morning, besides a clenv moonlight night. Fortunately l'or many of us a 'urge bout was procured at a yrry great expense, and -.ve arri ed just now in town. J lhe company, if intending to be successful and to gain the confidence < ■' the people, should procure moro trustworthy sen unts, whose word can be relied upon. The expense; o: the boat ta ill, of course, fall on tlio company, and may proye a warning to koup better faith with the people in future.
