NOTICE TO MARINERS.
TnE following notices, issued by tlie Murine Board, relative to tho Lights to be exhibited on various parts of the coast of Hew Zealand, namely, on Dog Island, Foveaux Straits ; Tairoa's Head, entrance to Otago Harbour ; Godley Head, entrance to l'ort I/yttelton ; and Mana Island, Cook's Straits ; are published for general information. Jitul Island, Fovcaitx Strait.?, Lighthouse. Dog Isiaml Lighthouse is situated on a small island of that name in i'oveaux Straits, oil tlio entrance to the Blull' Harbour, in 4G degrees 39 minutes 35 seconds south latitude, and IGS degrees 2G muiutes east longitude, as measured on t;u.' Adjiiralty chart.
Tilt; light will sliovv all rnuiid, und will bo ii Holopliotal JJioptrie Revolving White Light, of the first order, attaining it 3 greatest. brilliancy overj half minute.
It -will be elevated about 150 feet, above ihe level of tlie sea, and will be visible in clear weather about eighteen nautical miles, allowing tifleoii feet for the height of the observers eye, and at lesser distances according to the state of the atmosphere. Tlio tower is built of native stone of a grey colour, and will be 118 feet iu height from the ground to the lop of the lantern. This light is expected to be ready for permanent exhibition not later than April, IS(>5. Cuak. Skauv, President Marine Board. Marine Board Office, Wellington, 21th November, ISS4. Godley Head (Bank's Peninsula) lighthouse. Godley Head Lighthouse is situated on Godley (or Cachalot) Head, forming the north-western entrance of Port Lyttelton, Banks' Peninsula, in 43 degrees 33 minutes 32 seconds south latitude, and 172 degree* 49 minutes 30 minutes cast longitude, as measured on the Admiralty chart. . The light -will he a fixed Dioptric White Light, oi the second order, is elevated about 450 feet above the level of the so*, and illuminating aa arc of 200 degrees. It will bo visible from seaward, in ele<ir weather, about 29 nautical miles, and at lesser distances, accordiug t® the 6tatc of tho atmosphere, from E. ± S , round by the north to about JST.N.W. nv. ~, , , , The tower will be thirty feet m height from base to yivne. % . , This light is expected to be ready for permanent exhibition about March, 1865. Tairoa's Head Ugh Lhrrttst. Tairon'p TTeacl lighthouse "is situated OH tlio headland bearing that name, on Ihe cnat or seaward aid© of the entrance to Otugo Harbour, in 45 degrees 4*l minutes latitude, and 170 degrees 45 minutes east longitude, as measured on the Admiralty charts. The light 1 , will be a fixed Dioptric Bed Light oftho 3rd order, :uid will be seen to seaward from about E. J N., round by the north to about N.W.j and up the harbour it will show from about W. i S. to about S.W. J ~W\, the latter line indicating the turningpoint of th« 3 Cross Channel. The ?'"gbt will be elevated about 196 feet above th© level of 'the sea, and will be visible in clear weather about 20 nautical miles, allowing 15 feet for the height of the observer's eye, and at lesser distances according to the state of the atmosphere. The tower, which, together with the dwellinghouses, w ill be painted white, will be 39-J feet high, from tlie ground to the top of the lantern. This light is expected to be ready for permanent exhibition 011 and after the night.ot Monday, January 2nd, 1865.
