CAMBRIDGE.
[ritOM OUH OWN COItItKSI'ONDKNT.] Dec. 9. Colonel Sloule, of the 4tli AVaikato Regiment, was hero to-day, from Hamilton, on a court-martial. One of tho prisoners tried was connected with the gambling ntlair reported in my last, a corporal of tho 3rd Regiment, who is now reduced to a private. There was a change in the weather here to-day ; nice Marni showers all the day. Th u body of tho man dr owned a few days back, belonging to the Gorman' Company, was found at Hamilton ;an inquest is to be held to-morrow. This is the second man drowned hero. Dec. 11. Tho ' Gundagai' &ime up lato last night, with a mail from Ngaruawahia, and also a large quantity of commissariat s< ores ; sho stays liero all to-day, and leave.3 at o to-morrow morning wii.li a mail for Auckland. Tho ma jority of the men here appear to bo very dissatisfied; in fact, I think they are almost tired of soldiering nnd pipeclay, and as they do not get their Imid, nnd no 0110 seems fo know when tlicy will, they seem to think they arc being humbugged; and if they -were offered a free discharge, i believe more than half would take it. In fact, almost ovory steamboat that collies up brings up tlireo or four substitutes, and some pay as much as £10 or £I' 2 to get away. 1 think there is rather too much guard-room, drill, and pipeclay, to suit military settlers, a great many of whom are old diggers and sailors, a rather queer class of customers to ileal with.
