Tho dobate on tho Land Bill has been postponed until Tuesday next. It is reported that tho Govcrnmont intend to levy £200,000 by tho new duties. Parcels of Chilian flour and wheat sold by auction at fair prices. Large lots of Chilian and Californian wheat woro placed at 6s. 9d. Java coffee in bond sold at lOd.

Tho P."O. Co.'s steamer Bombay, with tho English mails, arrived at tho Bay at ten yostorday morning, and cleared tho Heads for Sydnoy at four p m. Tho Post Boy, from Sourabaya, reports having been engaged in removing tho effects of the Portuguese embassy from Java to Timor, a serious rovo't having brokon out at Dilly amongst tho troops stationed thoro, in consequence of tho non-payment of their arrears. Tho military officers aro supposed to be implicated in the mutiny. Tho rioters threatened to sack the Treasury, but desisted on finding that tho spocie had beon removed, and placed onboard tho Post Boy. Tho disturbance was afterwards quelled.

A serious famine has been raging on tho Island of Kangeang, several hundreds of tho inhabitants havo diod of starvation. Tho Dutch authorities havo dispatched a quantity of rice and othor necessaries for the use of tho sufferers.

Advices by her state that the natives of Java were in a state of insurrection in consequenco of increased taxation. Another largo seizure of indecent jewellery, ex mail steamer, has been seized by the authorities. Bice has risen considerably sinco the arrival of tlio mail. Nearly all tho parcels ollering are bought up on speculation.

Breadstuff's are depressed. Greig mid Murray sold a cargo of Chilian Hour, ex Jolian Ccznrd, at £10 7s 6d to £10 12s Git, completely upsetting the market.

Adelaide flour is quoted at £20. Adelaide wheat is in great demand. All the Chilian in the market is cleared out of firit hands. Otago dates to the 6tli instant are to hand. Markets are unchanged, and no news of importance. Arrived. —City of Melbourne (s.) at 3 p.m., from Sydney. December 14. A conference oil the transportation question will meet in Melbourne on the 20th. Delegates from Queensland, Tasmania, and South Australia havo notified their intention of attending. "Western Australia declines taking taking part in it. Private English advices state that the transportation to Australia will bo stopped, but that its eesaation has been delayed by the indiscretion of Mr. M'Culloch, tho [.Chief Secretary, and Mr. "Wilson's scheme.

A correspondence between the Government and tho Judges of the Supreme Court, arising out of >1 udge Barry having taken leavo of absence during the holidays, has been published. Captain Potter, of the American ship Hudson, at present at King George's Sound, reports having discovered on liio voyage out from England round tho Capo of Good Hope, in latitude 39-52 South, and 35'13 East, a shoal west and south south-east, with a rock twenty yards long and ten l'eet high, and lying in tho usual track of ships. Tho breadth of tho shoal extends a long way to tho southward. Captain Potter asserts positively he was not mistaken, as he passed wi tliiu a mile of it. The damage done by the late busli fires to the sheep runs in the Burra. district is estimated at £20,000. Business quiet. At auction this morning greasy wool realised 9sd. Scotch galvanized iron, 0 feet, 2-1 gauge, sold at £27 10s. Orange pokoo was sold at 2s 3d. In sugars, white crystals realised £34 15s to £35 ; light crystals, £34 10s ; brewing crystals, £33 las j yellow counters, £31 to £31 6d; ration, £29 los to £2'J 17s Gd.
