CHAMBER OF COMMERCE—Thursday.
The adjourned meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday, Mr. Nathan occupied tho ehuir. Present: Messrs.Nathan,chairman; T.Macfarlauo, C. A. - Harris, :Isaacs, Cochrano, Frith, Stack, and S. Macfarlane. The minutes of tho previous meeting wero read and confirmed. The Skcretary read several letters from tho Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, respecting tho . Now Zealand Hail arrangements. After some desultory remarks, Mr. Frith proposed that a committee, consisting of Messrs. T. Macfarlane, Walter Grahamo, Wolloy, and tho mover, bo appointed, to correspond with tho Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, and to road and report upon tho correspondence already roccived. Mr. J. S. Macfarluue seconded the proposition, which was carried. Some discussion then took placo respecting tho judge's remarks in the insolvency case of I tat bay a Mutheson. Tho members generally seomcd to consider tho judge's observations as too strongly expressed. Mr. Maci'aklaxe was of opinion that tho Chamber should take a moro decided Btand in. commercial matters. Mr. Fhitu was of tho samo opinion, but considered the primary objects to bo obtained was tllO punctual attendance of members. The subject then dropped. The Chairman suggested that this being mail-day, it was desirable to adjourn the meeting to a future day, when the report of tho committee just appointed could bo received. After some discussion respecting tho day, Mr. Frith moved that tho meeting stand adjourned until that day t fortnight (Friday, January 5), which being carried, tho meeting separated.
