THE SOUTH.
Thk ' Lady Bird ' arrived in harbour on Saturday, and though she brings considerably later dates from the South, there is little or no news of general interest. By way of Wellington we learn from Wonganui that the natives in tho Taupo district are many of them perishing from scarcity of food. Jn Oiago, the rule applied for by the Times to set aside tho verdict given against them in the action for libel, has been refused. Expressions of the Press, market reports, will be found in another column.
