MESSRS. BARRY AND DANIELS' DRAMATIC COMPANY.
To-umirr. for the last time, the members ofthis company will appear before the Auckland public. For the last six months, during which time they have been performing in Auckland, they have been deservedly popular, and the full houses which, as a rule, have rewarded their exertions, speak more than we can do of the recognition of their ability by the Auckland public. As we said before, it is now some six months since Messrs. Barry and Daniels, whose talents were well known and appreciated in left the Prince of "Wales Opera in that city to establish a theatre-iii Auckland. J'lany were at fust doubtful whether such a speculation would be a paying one, as heretofore none had been able to obtain a position. It was reserved tor the managers of the Prince of "Wales to show that here as elsewhere, talent will command the public patronage, and oversowing houses have been the result. The j :-es have been well chosen and placed upon the .~iage both as regards scenery, mechanism, and , dress, in a manner that has really surprised , us. Of course in so large a company the acting ol comparatively few comes up to the mark of excellence, but any company which includes amongst its members such artistes as Miss bannv \oung. the Misses GriHitlis and Corco- . ran, Messrs. G. AY. Parry. Daniels, and O'Brien i cannot (nil of success. Mr. Clifford, too. in some characters, lias greatly aided the general I e fleet, and the same in .ay be said of Mr. West, p V> e hear that they leave next week for IV el son. . having vacated the Brunswick Hall, now better '■ known as the Prince ol "Wales Theatre, in favor , of the Lyster Opera Company. We trust their sojourn in the South will lie but a temporary , one, and that on the departure of the opera troupe we may have the pleasure of welcoming p them back again to Auckland. In readiness for the Opera Company, eonsi- . derable additions have been made to the Theatre. , A uallerv over the rear of the back seats has ; been erected, of :!o feet to the extreme point of ( a sweep ot nine teet to the centre, and forty feet [ wide, with an incline of one foot in five. This gallery, which ranks as the second best part of the house, will be open to the public to-night. And in order to afford the public of Auckland an apportunity ol witnessing the performance of the "Octoroon" once more in Auckland, the managers have considerably reduced the prices of admission to -is.. 35.. and 2s. We have little doubt but that the public will take advantage ofthis opportunity afforded them , of showing their appreciation of the ability and enterprise of the management. It is seldom that in a Provincial theatre there is an opportunity of witnessing so much real talent combined as that assured in the names of the Misses Young. . Griffiths, and Corcoran, and of Mr. Barry and Mr.Daniels, in their several special rule*. A new attraction was received last, night with loud cheers, the beautilully-exeeutcd advertising drop-scene. '1 he pieces for this evening will be the " Octoroon " and a roaring farce. ; 1 •
