VICTORIA-STREET MAN-TRAPS.
To the Editor of the New Zealand Herald. Sin, —T beg to draw the attention of the authorities, through the medium of your columns, to the disgraceful state of Victoria-street. The City Board gave permission to the proprietors of the Circus lo erect a temporary building in Victoria-street. No doubt that permission was coupled with n condition to thecH'ecl that the street should not he injured. However that may bo, it is clearly the duty of the Hoard to have the man-traps referred to filled in. The footpaths in this street are so bad that pedestrians who liavo regard to the safety of their limbs take the centre of the road, and under existing circumstances it is next to a miracle that people are not killed. 1 m asured Iheso traps this morning, and found the iirst scries lo be about four feet deep, with a nice noosing on the top to catch one's toes. The sccond series show a depth of two feet, six inches, with a comfortable bed of soft soil at the base. It is hoped immediate steps will bo taken to remove this d isg race fu 1 n u i sail ce. T November -t.
