T>* our issue of Aloutlay we published the ofiicial notification of the promotion of Quarter-Master-Sergeant Aclie.son to air Knsigncy in tlie Goth .Regiment. If. is now our pleasing duty to give a brief record of that oflicer's service as a non-commissioned officer. Mr. Acheson entered the service in ISSI, when he joined the (>stli JiciDicnt, and was immediately promoted to the rank of corporal. In 1853 he was again promoted, and, as "Sergeant, performed the duties of Paymaster and Orderly-room Clerk for upwards of five years. In 1858 he arrived in .New Zealand, and very soon after was promoted to the rank of Color-Sergeant and PaySergeant of the light company of his corps. In ] 8(53 his indefatigable zeal in the conscientious discharge of his varied duties, in and out of the field, gained for him the rank of Quarter-Master-\Ve but reiterate the generally-expressed feelings of (lie ollicers and non-commissioned of the old "Tigers" when we say that Mr. Acheson is the " right man in the right place " and we shall ever hail such promotions as evidence ot the improved and improving character of out army. Par-Master-Sergeant G. Collins succeeds to i the office of Quarter- Master-Sergeant, and wc trust ere long to hear of his following the stcpt I of his predecessor to a commission.
