PROSPECTUS. The M::nulcau Steam Company lias "been projected in order to supply a cheap and regular means of communication between tlie Capital and the extensive districts watered by the Waikato and its tributaries, and tho various settlements on the shores of the Manukau Jlartour. The scheme embraces the placing not only a suit» able steam r-r on the Manukau, hut also tho construction of a ( heap tramway across the level country between tho Waiuku and the banks of the Waikato, with proper wharfago and storago accommodation at all the pli;ces at which the Company's boat will | call. It may also be found desirable to extend operations to the Waikato itself, and, by running boats on that river and its branches, to undertake the carrying traffic through the whole distance. Tho location of tho Regiments of " Waikato Militia" in tho upper portion of the country has already created a considerable amount of traffic, and tho opening up of those fertile districts to the enterprize of European colonization, will certainly lead to the development of the natural resources of tho country to a very large extent. Already the highly successful sale of a part of tho site of the future City of Newcastle (at the junction of tho Waikato and Waipa Rivers) has shown the favourable estimate which tho mercantile community has formed of the prospects oi trade in that district; an estimate which the approaching settlement of large numbers of European immigrants oil the Waikato lands cannot fail to justiiy. It is obvious that wherever a large population springs up, ready means of communication must bo provided ; it is, therefore, to meet an actual necessity that the establishment of the Manukau Steam Company's line is proposed, and the Provisional Directors feel that they can with perfect confidence recommend the scheme to their fellow-colonists, in tho assurance that it will not only be of great service to the community in assisting to open up an important part of the Province, but also, if wisely carried out, a source of considerable profit to the shareholders.
