The complainant did not appear, and the accused was discharged with a suitable caution from his Worship. I.AUCKNY. Ellen Fitzgerald was charged by Christopher B. Smith with having stolen from his shop in Queenstreet, on the 2Gth September, IS(H, a side of bacon, of the valuo of los. The prisoner pleaded guilty, and begged for mercy for the sake of her family. The Bench remarked that this was her third offence, and sentenced her to six months' imprisonment in the common gaol of Auckland with. hard labour. LAIICENY. William Henry, a boy of ten years of age, was brought up charged with stealing from Richard Hales, a ginger beer manufacturer, Auckland, tlu-ce bottles of ginger beer, of the value of Is. The prisoner pleaded guilty. His \Vorship said it was a difficult ease to know what to do with. The Commissioner stated that the parents had left the child entirely to his own resources. Ilis Worship dilated very strongly upon tho conduct of tho mother who could behave in so unfteling i a manner to her own offspring, and buid she ought to ' lie in the dock instead of the prisoner. Tho Commissioner suggested that ho slioulu take charge of tho child, and endeavour to got him admitted iuto ono of tho charitable institutions of the city. jlis Worship thought tho idea was a feasible one, and tho accused was, thcreforo, loft in tho hands of the polico for that purpose. HOUSE .STEALING. William Ifcamden was brought up on remand chargcel by Hunia, a Maori, with stealing a horse. On tho application of tlio prisoner tho case was adjourned until to-morrow, in order to obtain the attendance of a witness for tho dofonco. This concludcel the business for the day.
