We hear that some claim for compensation is about to be sent in by her owners to the Insurance Company, as she was insured only for total loss. The barque signalled yesterday afternoon proved to be the Bella Mary, Capt. Copping, from Matakana, where she has shipped a full cargo of timber for Hobart Town. She has called in for pat-sen gem, preparatory to taking her final departure for that port. H.M. s.s. Caraeoa, Commodore Wiseman, was to leave Sydney for Melbourne a few hours after tho Eclipse. From Melbourne she will return to this port, as, we hear, all the ships of war are to assemble on this station next month. At the time of the Eclipse's departure H.M. s.s. Ksk was in Cockatoo Dock, Sydney, undergoing repairs, and would bo there in all probability a month. The brig Kale sailed from Newcastle for this port on the 13th instant with 356 tons coal. • The ship Silver Eagle, Capt. Longman, arrived at Shanghai from this port on the 6th May. China Charters.—The Cc-dais, from Melbourne, at £4 per ton; Tientsin, Foo Chow to Melbourne, at £1 ss. per ton ; Seaton, Foo Chow to Auckland, at -CI per ton. l"he A. S. N. Company's steamer City of Adelaide left the Sydney Wharf at 5 p.m., on Tuesday, tho 9th instant, during a hard gale from tho S.E. She bael an officer on board from the New South Wales Post Office, holding authority to remove the Melbourne mail from the Barwon (s.), then lying in Watson's Bay wind-bound, the Barwon having left Sydney the day previously. Having received the mail—both that irorn Newcastle and that from Sydney,—the City of Adelaide put to sea at a eiuarter-past 6 p.m., in the face of a heavy S.E. gale and tremendous sea, and has made a most succeseful run round, having reached Hobson's Bay at half-past 5 p.m. yesterday. Shu experienced light southerly winds in tho Straits, and light adverse winds during the latter part of tho passage. The company's steamer City of Melbourne w as met sixty miles south-west of Cape Howe, at H p.m., on the 10th instant. Captain Trouton speaks in the highest terms of the good character of his line ship as a sea-boat. He states that the sea broke right across Sydney Heads as he went out. At first steam wis eased to half-speed, fearing some damage from the heavy sea she was meeting, br.t it was found unnecessary, as she shipped no water.
