George Wilson, llur- . just yhuuoi', A lice Brown, Alexander Flewell, William Lucas, and Charles Weston were fined 20s. and costs, or in default 48 hours' imprisonment with haul labour; Mary Ann Leslie seven days additional, it being her fourth oil'ence. BREACHES or THE ITUKICirAL POLICE ACT. James Bailey, James Dixon, Thomas Jones, Laurence Lorigau, and William C'hadrien were severally charged with a breach of the 17th clause of the above Act, by driving their carta without using reins. The defendants pleaded guilty, and were each fined in a mitigated penalty of 20s. and costs ; the Bench warning them that in future the full penalty of £5 would be indicted. His Worship commented (in his remarks upon these eases) upon the very dangerous practice of leaving boys in charge of horses and drays. John Garvin, a private in the Military Train, was charged with the same oil'ence ; but. upon the representations of an officer of the corps present, that the . men were ignorant of the law, and lhat stringent orders had been issued to prevent a repetition of the offence, he was ordered to be handed over to the military authorities. George Morley was also charged with a breach of the Act, in having left his horse and cart standing in tho street, without placing any one in charge of . thera. The constable on duty deposed to having fouud the horae' and cart at the tank in Queen-street, no ; one being in charge of them at the time. That tlie horse, after drinking, had backed and proceeded up Queen-street, and not succeeding in finding the owner, he had brought it to the Police Guard-room. Tlie defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined 20s. and costs. EICBEZZLEITBNT. Thomas Eaman, Captain in the Ist regiment of tlie Waikato Militia, -was brought up on a charge of having, about the lßt of April last, fraudulently emb6zzled certain sums of money to the amount of £323 or thereabouts. At the request of the Commissioner of Police, this case was remanded until Friday (to-morrow). I
