Tlie wliole ol'this force was called into operation, and Hoods of water discharged upon the llames, but being confined below tliehatchwavs it was a work of no little dillieulty for the liremen to reach the seat of the eonllagration, and it was found absolutelv necessary to scuttle the ship ; but even that was a. work of great dillieulty, for owing to the tide being down the lircmen could only allow the water to pas.-Tinlo the hold of the ship and oul again as the water receded. Large porlions of the ship an: destroyed, and she is ollicially reported as being severe]v damaged by tire and the attempt at scuttling. The origin of the 'misfortune could not be learned.
