WARKWORTH.
That the Mahurangi river and harbour will some ■ day become one oi' the principal ports on the : Ka>tcrn t'oasi. .North ot' Auckland, none who I have sailed up its magnificent dec]' water reaches ; and traversed the large amount "of available rich I country which must look to it as an outlet, will l>e iiuTnu-il to doubt. As a rival to Waikato in. the production oi' eoal. and a very important rival, too. considering the short distance and direct water carriage lo Auckland, the district i \>iil alsu become well known at no VlT3' distant j date. Already tlie settlement, like that of ] Wangarci. timber north, is assuming the appearance of a thriving Knglish village with its public hall, its mill, its rival hotels, schools, and j places oi' public worship; and those who only reI iiicinliiT -\!uliur;intri as it was six or seven years I airo would be wonderfully and agreeably surI prised on a visit 10 it at the present moment. j AVe have tin , some time looked forward to the J sale of the long laid out to\vnshi]/of Warkwortli : as a speculation which was likely to find favour : with Auckland men, but the owner has j v. isely. we think, refrained from placing it before J the public until the settlement showed the healthy staie of advancement which it now I does. It uill be sold on Monday morning by 1 .Mr. Samuel Cochrane, at his auction room, ! lort-street, in eiu'hly-iiine allotments. j The township is wi-li laid out, the streets ' intersect one an. t!i« rat right angles. There is a trnniajjn' 10 ileep water in the , river, and also to itie large basin alongside the : town. ' A village green is ivsi-rved in its miflst, as is 1 also the site for an i\j Iscoi.-aliaii (.'liurch, and I tin- Town J-lall oceupi.-s uhiiwi the centre of j the village. The road fn.in ivaipara to the river ruim directly the village, mid the g-iverninent road to the JNorih along its SyuthI'lii boundary. We learn that a one acre lot was privately .sold as the site for a mill for JL'A>. Sucli a fact speaks for itself.
