Volckner THE LOCAL COMMITTEE, nominated by Hij Honor the Superintendent, respectfully solicits the co-operation and assistance of the public gene--1 rally, in obtaining samples and specimens of Wool Flux, Timber, Cereals, Kauri Gum, Gold, Coal' Fossils and Minerals of every description; also Manufactured Articles and Productions of this Province. to forward for Show to the Mew Zealand Exhibition, to be held in OTAGO, on the FPRST TUESDAY of JANUARY, 1865: The Committee are very desirous of having this Province fully represented at the forthcoming Exhibition, especially in respect t* those articles of natural production which are likely to become staples of export. The method of dressing and improving thess articles is the nest most important subject. Aiiy iaformation furnished on litis head will be hiplily* a ppre ; ciated, and will materially assist the Committee with the objects in view. Specimens of Natural Histort and information relative to Arts and Science are a!fo required, especially such as shall exhibit the Gcologv and Mineralogy of this Proviuce. The Committee recommend that a label should be attached by exhibitors to every article intended for exhibition, describing locality where procurable or manufaetnred, and quantities likely to be obtained and probable cost. It is the intention of the Committee to hold ah Exhibition in Auckland, of tlie collection, befor6 transmitting it to Otago, at which premiums will be awarded for articles considered of suflicicnt merit. The commission nominated by Bis Excellencv the Governor, have intimated that they will be prepared to receive articles on and after the first day of October next, and have fixed the 12th of December as the latest date on which articles can be receivedthe collection from Auckland would therefore require to be shipped early in November. The Committee have fixed the 20th day of Oetober as the latest date at which articles can be received in Auckland. As it is in contemplation by some members of the Committee and likewise by the Hon. Secretary to proceed with the collection, with a view of a proper supervision and bringing prominently under the notice of visitors the manufacturers and products generally of this Province ; a favourable opportunity i; thereby offered to manufacturers and others of introducing any articles with which they may entrust the Committee to exhibit. Tho Committee earnestly trust that every effort will be made in furnishing a complete collection of articles manufactured and produced in this Province; and as they are fully impressed with the importance of Exhibitions generally, and the amount of benefit resulting- therefrom, they confidently anticipate that new resources of trade will open up in the export of many articles which are now mnnufactmrd by the aid of machinery and otherwise to a considerable extent in this Province. The Committee request that intending exhibitors will forward to the Secretary in writing with as little delay as possible, a list of the articles intended to be prepared for exhibition, with the amount of space (superficial area) required ; also the wall space;astha Ist of May is the latest date allowed by the New Zealand Commission for receiving applications foi space. The Secretary, or any member of Committee, will be happy to afford every information in their power to intending exhibitors. Tho Committee will hold themselves responsible for the safe custody and delivery of all articles ill Otago, free of cost; the disposal of them alter tht close of the Exhibition ia left discretionary with exhibitors. The prices may be affixed to any article» exhibited. The Committee have made arrangements that any articles intended for exhibition will be received and stored free of expense by the Secretary. Even* care will be bestowed in packing aud transmitting to Otago. Subscriptions in aid of defraying the necessary expenses which will be incurred in currying out the abovo objects, will bo thankfully received by tht Treasurer, or any member of the Committee. E.
