RAGLAN ELECTION.
TrfK nomination of a member to serve in the Provincial Council for the district of Baglan, caused by the resignation of Joseph May, Esq., who left for England by the ' Light. Brigade ' as emigration commissioner for this province, was held yesterday in the Court House, Onehunga, at 12 o'clock. Mr. Andrews proposed Mr. W. F. Bassett as a lit and proper person to represent- the -Raglan district, as a gentleman well known and generally respected. Mr. H. Roberts seconded the proposition. Mr. A. Mears was then proposed by Mr. R. McGhee, and seconded by Mr. E. Cody. Both candidates having addressed the meeting, the Returning Ollicer called for a show of hands, when, after some little discussion, there were found six for Mr. Bassett and five for Mr. Mears. A poll was demanded by the latter, and ordered to take place this day week. A vot« of thanks to the Returning Officer terminated the meeting.
