SEAT OF GOVERNMENT.

Tin; Kelson papers seem to be congratulating one another tliilt the Governors of the Australian colonies are likeh r to be so indiscreet as to accept 1.1 le ollice imposed on tliein by the General Assembly, and appoint a. commission to determine the fortunate " somewhere " in Cook's Straits. So clearly have the Auckland and Jhinedin press annihilated the pretensions of Wellington, and held that unfortunate " .Sleepy .Hollow " up to general ridicule, that .Nelson herself begins to have visionary dreams of greatness, and the .Nelson Chamber of Commerce have appointed a committee to prepare a statement showing the claims of Kelson to be selected as the site lor the seat of government. Picton has been declared by Kelson to be too unhealthy lor the capital ! Wellington is too shaky, and Keison thinks to walk over the course. The truth is that were the .Australian Governors wicked enough and foolish enough to interfere in matters with which they have nothing to do, whether asked by the General Assembly or no, the three cities (Heaven help us !) of Cook's Straits would be just in the position of competitors for a, public prize, whose ellorls did not come up to a certain average, and would therefore be not recognizable at all. The Commissioners would have to turn to the extreme .North or South of Kew Zealand, aud would be in the dilemma of either continuing the present evil or of injuring the Korth by removing the capital to JJuiiedin and leaving matters substantially in the same condition as before. There is but one cure for the evil, and that cure is the political Separation of the two islands of Kew ZcaJand.
