Volekner f THE LOCAL COMMITTEE, nominated by His % Honor the Superintendent, respectfully solicits % the co-operation and assistance of the public l gene- 'j rally, in obtaining samples and specimens of Wool, £ Flax, Timber, Cereals, Kauri Gum, Gold, Coal, B Fossils and Minerals of every description; also fi Manufactured Article's and Productions of this Pro- ■ vince, to forward for Show to the New Zealand "5 Exhibition, to be held in OTAGO, on the FIRST . it TC7ESDAY of JANUARY, ISBS. % The Committee are very desirous of having this Province fully represented" at the forthcoming Ei- | hibition, especially in respect t■> those articles of natural production which are likely to become staples 'I of export. . p The method of dressing and improving those si articles is the next most important subject. Any infor- r mation furnished on this head will be highly appre- \ ciated, and will materially assist the Committee with :| the objects in view. Specimens of Natural History % and information relative to Arts aud Science are also ' ] required, especially sueh as shall exhibit the Geology and Mineralogy of this Province. The Committee recommend that a label should be '$ attached by exhibitors to every article intended for | exhibition, describing locality where procurable, or i manufactured, and -.uaatities likely to be obtained, ?) 8 " '.probable cost. -j j lis the intention of the Committee to hold an Exhibition in Auckland, of the collection, before transmitting it to Otago, at which premiums will be •'§ awarded for articles considered of sufficient merit. i; The commission nominated by His Excellency the Governor, have intimated that they will be prepared ■ % to receive articles on and after the first day of sj October next, and have fixed the 12th of December .is as the latest date on -which articles can be received j the collection from Auckland would therefore require ]£ to be shipped early in November. The Committee |jf j have fixed the 20th day of October as the latest date If! at which articles can be received in Auckland. E.%! As it is in contemplation by some members of the Committee and likewise by the Hon. Secretary to proceed with the collection, with a view of a proper {^j supervision and bringing prominently under the no- fjfe tico of visitors the manufacturers and products genorally of this Province ; a favourable opportunity is Hp thereby ottered to uianufaetnrers and others of intro- [ ducing any articles with which they may entrust the Committee to exliibit. 1® The Committee earnestly trust that evnrv effort fVS will be made in furnishing a complete collection of sSfj articles manufactured and produced in this Province; fiJS and as they are fully impressed with the importance p!j of Exhibitions generally, :uid the large amount of jsjj benefit resulting therefrom, they confidently anticipate that new resources of trade will open up in the export of many articles which are now manufactured by the aid of machinery and otherwise to a consider- -/| able extent in this Province. The Committee request that intending exhibitors * ■ will forward to the Secretary in writing with as little s£3 deliy as possible, a list of tho articles intended to be !~r prcpared for exhibition, with the amount of spice (superficial area) required ; also the wall space; as the £ Ist of May is the latest date allowed by the New p Zealand Commission for receiving applications for space. Pi The Secretary, or any member of Committee, will fi bo happy to afl'ord every information in their power to intending exhibitors. - jgij The Committee will hold themselves responsible for the safe custody and delivering of all articals in Otago, free of cost; the disposal of them after the iE close of tho Exhibition is left discretionary with ex- p hibitors. The prices may be aflixed to any articles exhibited. The Committee havo made arrangements that any ip| articjils intended for exhibition will be received and gi stored free of expense by tho Secretary. Every care SI will be bestowed in packing aud transmitting to Otago. ....
