The Chairman noxt produaed tho list of assessments, and movod that Friday next bo fixed for a meeting to consider the subject. Tho report of tho nuisance committee was then again brought bofore tho Board, and it was movod that a copy ho sent to tho Superintendent. The Chairman expressed his surprise that no notice had boon taken of it by tho prosa, considering tho great importance of it. Mr. Webster observed that he was thunderstruck at seeing tho long list of deaths in tho monthly summary of tho Southern Cross, and ho thought that this coming after tho report of tho Committee rendered tho consideration of tho subject one of tho greatest importance. He remarked that wo could not wonder at the nnhedthiness of the town with the nuisances that existed, and mado some observations upon the many cesspools in low neighbourhoods, and tho insufficiency of tho water supply. Mr. Macready thought that tho City should at oncu take up the considemtion of the water supply. Mr. Swainson thought that any extended Rchume of bringing wator from Onehunga, or eUewhero, w:is completely beyond tho powor of the City Board. They had done all thoy could in providing wells. The Chairman noxt read a memorandum for an addendum to tiio report of tho Nuisances Committee. A report from tho City Engineer upon the state of an open drain on Mr. Smith's property and others, at tho foot of Barrack Hill, was then read, and it was moved that tho report be allowed to lie till tho main sewer be brought up to Wellosloy-strcet. Tho Chairman read tho report on the works in Chapel-stri-et Elliot-street, and/Victoria-stroot. Moved that tenders bo advertised for. Motion seconded and carried. Tho Chairman afterwards read the account*, which concluded tho business of tho Board.
