THE CLAUD HAMILTON.
This elegant steamship Isilcos her departure this morning lor Sydney, and is not likely to revisit. .Auckland, at least lor some time to cone. She lias been so 1-ng in our service that she may almost be luoked upon as one of our "old identities " thrust out of place to make way tor a newel - and more go-a-he:id successor. standing that' 'Claud Hamilton' lias been a '• slow coach," she still has so many good qualities to recommend her that she has been a great and deserved favourite with many voyagers. As a safe and easy sen boat she cannot be surpassed, and in point of internal comfort and littings she is the most chaste and magnilicent vessel we ever set foot in. Such being the case ive have a real pleasure in learning (hat neiiher j>ains nor expense are to be spared in converting her, if possible, Irom .Claud .Hamilton ' the *I<ac to 'Claud Hamilton' tic xjintfj/; and to that end another additional boiler has been ordered from England, by which means Captain "V ine Hall who lias operated so surprisingly upon other of the Company's ships, may prove as successful ou the - Claud.' Such a ship should be made to go, aiid if that feat can be accomplished we shall be glad to welcome her back. Our next mail will be brought by the ' Otago' (thoroughly cleaned and refitted) in command of Captain Macliin. She will then be handed over to Captain Eandall for the East Coast trade— Captain Machin taking the Lord Ashley to Sidney to dock mid refit. "What steamer he w'lll then be transferred to we have not heard. He will, however, continue in the Auckland trade.
