It seems that oilier of the inside pas- : sengers were drunk, and that the driver, by his ! own admission on the inquest, receives passengers j either drunk or sober, unite " periniscuous like." • If buses are so crowded nml if such a disreputable practise is pursued the sooner that a little hcalthv competition is started the better will it be for the respectable portion if the community who have to travel on the (Irent South I-ioad. A quesiion has, we believe, occurred to the mind of the City Board ■ Jioturning-ollieer. whether, as the electors are to be those whose names appear on the ratepayers' ; roll, and as lhe names of many women occur : there.—whether the ladies have not a right to ! 1 exercise a voice in the matter, the word " he." or | : " him" in New Zealand Statutes being interpre- ; ted to apply to either sex. It is said that the I Keturning-ofiicer has applied to the Board and that the Board has referred him to the franiers : of the Act. "We have not vet been made acquaint■ed with the decision arrived at. Mr. i A arty,of Queen-street., hasboenollered under the ; above title to the Auckland public, and we have I much pleasure in commending all that has been I offered to our approbation as yet : we mean the ' printing and ornamentation, which are really i excellent and very pretty: the latter being a ! viewofNgaruawahia. Ist April next. | I'o.ssoxnv I loan.—We perceive that the pre- , vailing passion for changing the ownership of i land in the town and suburbs of Auckland is ! still unsuhsided. To-day another property is to I be offered tor sale by .Air. Joseph Cochrane | which is situated on the eastern slope of l'on- ! sonby road, and ouerlooking Freeman's Bay. : We rejoice to observe that the taste of the inhahi- | lants ot Auckland lias lately tended to spread the | iown in what may without impropriety he ; termed its legitimate direction instead of straggi ling away towards a detached and isolated suburb. Nothing could be more beautiful than th e scenery on the Freeman's Hay side of Auckland and it is far more conveniently situated for those whose occupations require them to be in town by a certain time every morning wet or line. We have heard it remarked by some that this press ol suburban allotments into the market is a mark of mistrust in present prices, but they forget that there is an equally great press of buyers and that properly never realised such high prices as at present. It is when landed property hangs in the market and finds no buyers that it is a time to feel mistrust, for while high prices are realised readily the only move that is likely to lie made is a rise.
