Yolekncr THE LOCAL COMMITTEE, nominated by His Honor the Superintendent. respectfully solicits the co-operation and assistance of the. public generally, in obtaining samples and specimen? of Wool, Klax. Timber. Cereals, Kauri Gum. Gold, Coal, Fossils and Minerals of every description ; also Manufactured Articles and Productions of this Province, to forward for Show to the New- Zealand Exhibition, to be held in OTAGO, oil the FIRST TCESDAY of .IANUARY, IStiS. The Committee are very desirous of having this Province fully represented at the forthcoming Exhibition, especially in respect to those articles of natural production which arc likely to become staples of export. The method of dressing and improving these articles is the next most important subject. Any information furnished on this head will be highly appreciated, and will materially assist the Committee with the objects in view. Specimens of Natural History and information relative lo Arts and Science are also required, especially such as shall exhibit, the Geology and Mineralogy of this Province. j.'ho Committee recommend that a label should be attached by exhibitors to every article intended for exhibition, describing locality where procurable, or manufactured, and quantities likely to be obtained, and probable cost. It is the intention of the Committee to hold ail Exhibition in Auekland, of the collection, before transmitting it to Otago. al which premiums will be awarded i'or articles considered of sutlicieiit merit. The commission nominated by nis Excellency the Governor, have intiiinUcd that they will be prepared to receive articles on and after the first, day of October next, and have lixed the 12th of December as the latest dato on which articles can bo received ; the collection from Auckland would therefore require to be shipped early in November. The Committee have lixed the -Otli day of October as the latest date at which articles can lie received in Auckland. As it is in contemplation by some members of the Committee anil likewise by the lion. Secretary to proceed with the collection, with a view of a proper supervision and bringing prominently under ilie notice of visitors the manufacturers ami products geiicrallv of this Province ; a favourable opportunity is thercbv otl'ered to manufacturers and others of introducing anv articles with which they may entrust the Committee 1o exhibit. The Committee earnestly trust that every effort will be made in furnishing a complete collection of articles manufactured and produced in this Province: and as they are fully impressed with the importance of Exhibitions generally, and the large amount of benefit, resulting"therefrom, they conlidently anticipate that new resources of trade will open up in the export of many articles which are now manufactured by the aid of machinery and otherwise to a considerable extent in this Province. The Committee request that intending exhibitors will forward to the Secretary ill writing with as little del iv as possible, a list of the articles intended to be pivpaivd for exhibition, with the amount of space; {.superficial area) required ; also the wall space; as the Ist of Mav is the latest date allowed by the New Zealand Commission for receiving applications for snace. ' Tin: Secretary,- or any member of Committee, will be happv to ati'ord every information in their power to intendiiiir exhibitor.-. The Committee, will hold themselves responsible for the safe custody and delivering of all arlicals in Otairo, free of cost; the disposal of them after the close of the Exhibition is left discretionary with exhibitors. The prices may be atlixed to any articles exhibited. The ('ommiltee have made arrangements that any articals intended for exhibition will bo received and stored free of expense by the Secretary. Every care will be bcstow.d in packing and transmitting to Utago. Subscriptions in aid of defraying the necessary expenses which will lie incurred in carrying out the above objects, will be thankfully received by the Treasurer, or any member of the Committer. E.
