PAKEHA EXCLUSIVENESS.
To the Kditorof the Ni:w Zc.ai.ami Hr.uu.n. Sir,—Mr. liorst, in his letter to the F.miinii J/Vo'f complains, in paragraphs, (hat—"if a chief'of the very highest rank visited Auckland, ho was refused admittance to almost all places." Lest the Kuglish public should look upon the Colonists as exclusive*. 1 should wish lo mention a few of the reasons for the above mentioned statement. First, the Maorics are sometimes troubled with a cutaneous disease called "the ilch," as published documents show; secondly, they are generally nlllictcd wish vermin; and the great chiefs, who are mostly old men. have, as a rule, an unconquerable dislike to soap and water, and consequently, are not usually of a sweet savour. furthermore, the old gentlemen aboie spoken «{', are given to expectorating on the carpel, and wiping their dirty hands on the table cover, hunting very energetically for creepers while thev are talking to vuit, and lo committing other littie solecisms not appreciated in polite society. 1 have myself seen "< a chief of the highest rank " (and smell) blow his nose on a gentleman's window curtain. AVhen Mr. Oorst shall have made his protegees (it companions for a cleanly human being, 1 shall lie very happy to fraternize", but, until then. 1 would rather meet my" unwashed and uncombed brother in the open air. Vours, ic, XlitfJlClt.
