The bridges on the North road through the paddock were, it is well known, government jobs, and only the other day, a team of bullocks and dray belonging to Mr. Carter, andharing on it three of his children, were crossing the bridge adjoining Mr. Maurice Kelly's ground nt the entrance of the paddock, when the bridge broke in two inthe middle, and children, bullocks, and dray sank through to a depth of 20 feet, fortunately none were hurt. These bridges have only been erected four years, and were the laughing stock of the settlers when put up.
