Salmon & Co., agents. ARRIVAL OF THE S.S. RAXGATIHA, FROM THE SOUTH. The N.Z.S.X. Co. \s steamer Rangatira,( 'apt. Mimdle. from the South, was signalled yesterdayafternoon, and arrived alongside the wharf at 4 p.m. She left Dnnedin on Sunday the 10th at 4 a.m.: arrived at Lyttelton on Monday, at 6 a.m. ; sailed from thence on Tuesday, 12th,'at 0-30 a.m., and arrived at Wellington ns above. Experienced fine weather throughout. Left Wellington at 0 p.m., on Saturday last; arrived nt Castle Point on Sunday at S a.m., sailing again at 11 o'clock that morning, and arrived at Xapier at 3 n.m. on Monday. Left Xapier same day at 3 p.m. and arrived here as above. The Rangatiru brings the following passengers :—Mr. J. Wallis, Mr. Rogers, Mr. Joseph Le Quinn, Mr. W. H Frame, Miss Walters, Mr. Williams, Mrs. Gill and child, Messrs. Peachy (3.) The cause of her detention was as follows: — "The Rasgatira.—This vessel started for Xapier and Auckland ,on Thursday afternoon last. When opposite Evans' Bay, a slight accident occurred to her machinery, which necessitated her bringing up. and she now lies at anchor nt Port Jeruinghnm. The necessary repairs having been effected, she will proceed on her voyage this afternoon at 3 o'clock.— Independent, Jan. Ifi." Tho Rangatiru sails again for the South on Friday next, at noon.
The schooners Zillali and Success both arrived at Napier from tliis port ou the ]3th inst. The ship Canterbury, arrived ut Lytteltou 011 the 10th inst., from London, with -1(10 passengers. The cutter Sydney, Crunch master, returned from the Thames yesterday morning. bringing hack the Auckland Naval Volunteers, (stationed there tin some months back,) in command of Licnt. Guilding. The schooner Fairy, Capt. McGregor, left- for Mongomu Inst night. The clipper schooner Neva, C'apt. Marshall, five days from Taranaki, arrived off the Manukau heads on Monday night, and proceeded up tn Voponga or Tuesday morning last. Capt. Marshall was compelled to slip his anchor and proceed to sea, during a heavy North "West gale, leaving behind him a cargo of woo!, which he had been chartered to convey to Sydney. The Neva will load timber in the Manukau for Sydney, and she has two 'J'aranaki passengers for that port—Mr. and Mrs. C'laiie. The ship llelvellyn, Capt. Dalison, for Shanghai, and brig Jane, for Newcastle, both cleared yesterday,' and will sail this morning. H.M.S.S. Miranda, Capt. Jenkins, and s.s. Corio, Cnpt. Turner, with troops for Tauranga. both sailed yesterday at 1 p.m. The schooner Tawera, for the same port, with bullocks for the Commissariat, leaves to-day. The gun-boat Sandfly is at present on the hard in Official Bay refitting. Her hull has been thoroughly scraped and painted: her boiler suceessfuly taken out. and should the new one, ou board the City ot Manchester, arrive next week, she will be ready to receive it. Her machinery is at present undergoing a thorough overhaul, in the hands of Messrs. A T iekery & Masefield, and under the superintendence of Mr. Lodder. "When the refit is completed the Sandfly will be equal to a new boat. The paddle-steamer Pdvenose, Captain James, took in 70 tons of cargo from the Onehunga "Wharf late on Tuesday night, and transhipped it yesterday morning before 8 o'clock to the s.s. Alexandra. This excellent little vessel, which has just been built by Mr. McLeod, only drew 2 feet 7 inches of water when loaded. The Astehoi'E.-—The fine clipper ship Asterope Capt. A. Stuart, the first wool ship of the season, will clear out at the Custom House to-day, and will sail to-morrow (Sunday), for London direct. She takes 15 passengers and a large cargo of wool and other produce valued at £47,329 7s. od., and being a fast sailer, and in capital trim, she will no doubt make a quick run home.— Wellington Independent, Jan. 10. The John Bunyan has about 300 bales of wool on board, and as wool is now coining rapidly in from the stations, she will sail early in February.—lbid. The Wild Duck has commenced discharging her cargo; but we regret to see that she is not alongside the Queen's "Wharf.—lbid. . The Albert "William has upwards of 500 bales of wool on board. As the most of her cargo is engaged, and is coming rapidly to hand, she will meet with quick despatch.—lbid.
