Left Wellington on the I:4ih at midnight, arrived at Lyttelton on the 11th at 8 o'clock (20 hours) ; experiencing light winds and line weather. Left Lvttclton December loth at 1 p.m. and arrived at Port Chalmers on the 10th at noon. Experienced moderate winds anil foggy weather. Left Dunedin December '2ith at 1 'SO p.m., arrived at Lyttelton, Dec. 2;>th at I'.'iO p.m. ('2l hours) : experienced head winds for t!ie most part. Left Lyttleton December L'oth, at 0 p.m., arrived at Welington, Dec. 20th, at 4-,'iO p.m., (22J. hours); experienced head winds to Cape Camphell, thence N.L. winds. Left Napier Deo. 2Sth, itt O'HO a.m., had North to N.E. winds to Last (.'ape, which was passed at ft a.m. on 2'.)th. from Last Cape experienced strong gales from West to South ; during the night of the 29th, had frequent heavy .squalls from S.S. W., with 1 rain and constant Hashes of lightning; from Capo Colville, experienced strong S.S.W. winds (51 hours). Tho Ashley brings a full cargo of oats from Dunedin and 80 volunteers in charge of Capt. Jackson. Tho steamer Kingatira, was detained in the Iron Pot, Napier, in consequence of heavy sea in the Hay when the Ashley left. The sailing of the s.s. Wonga Wonga, Cm pi. Cellem. from tin; Alanukau for Kaglan, Taranaki, and the South, lias been postponed until this morning, at 8 a.m. The k.s. Cot'io, Capt. Haker, sailed from Napier for this port with stock two days prior to the Lord Ashloy. Capt. Randall reports having sighted her putting into Hicks' Hay during a heavy gale of wind. The cut ter Alpha, Capt. Cannnn, from this port via Wangapoa, arrived at Lyttelton on the 2-lth inst. The schooners Maid of Kout and Dolphin, from this port, and ketch Wild Wave, from Kaipara. nil arrived at Canterbury on the 17th instant. A schooner named the Daring was advortizedin the Lyttelton papers of the 21th inst., us being on the berth for this port with despatch. Tho new screw steamer Xanthe arrived at Dunedin from Sydney, with slock, on the 22nd inst. Sho had lost 187 out of 217 head of cattle shipped. Captain Uandall, of the steamship Lord Ashley, roports that tho ship and barque which was signalled on Tuesday last, and telegraphed yesterday morning as anchored, have brought up outside Hangitoto. The ship is the Peerless, twenty-one days from Sydney, with cattle ; hut the barquo did not pass up her number, so it is a matter of conjecture what oiio it is. She will, in all probability, be the Isle of France, Captain Jluir, winch sailed from Newcastle, with a cargo of coals, on the Oth instant. Owing to the strong Southerly wind which prevailed yesterday they wore unable to work up the gulf. The s.s. Ifangatira, Captain Mundle, is due in tho Mannkau from the South on the 4th proximo ; but as it will be seen by our report of the Lord Ashley that sho was detained in Napier, owing to :i heavy galo and sea, at the time of the .Ashley's departure, she will likely be behind her time. The liaugatirais annouueed to sail on the 7th, enrrving the supplementary English mail. The s.s. Auckland, Captain Machin, sails for Sydney to-morrow morning at 9 a.m. ihc ship Annie Wilson, Captain Duckitt, was fast filling up at Lvtt»*!ion for London, and was to sail about the middle, of next month. ihe paddle-steamer Prince Alfred, recently stranded at \\ anganui bar, had been successfully got off, and since made a trip round tho Southern Provinces. She arrived at "Wellington on the 2-lth inst., and was about to be placed on the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company's slip, for tho purpose of being re-coppered. the following vessels were entered outwards at the Custom House yesterday :—Kate, barque, Auckland, s.s., and Harriet Armitage, barquo, for Svdnov : Pet, bng, for Melbourne, via Maraiti, at which latter place she will ship a full cargo of timber. The Harriet Armitage will sail in a day or two. The barque Ann and Jane, and brig Hebe, Captain Toah, tor Newcastle, and culler Marwoll, for ft-iglan, saj! thia morning.
