Commercial Intelligence.

The wool sale held at the Haymarket yesterday was numerously attended. There were 250 bales and 50 bags pitched priccß oh tained for, but descriptions showed in advance from one to threc-half-peuce per lb. over last year's sales, but ill-conditioned wools were no better worth ; there ware very few samples with burr shown, owing to the shearing having been attended to earlier this season than heretofore ; but washed wools brought from Is. Gd. to Is. 7£d., tho highest price obtained being given for Leicester wool. The greater number of samples brought from Is. 4d. to Is. sd. per lb. ; indifferently washed from Is. 3d. to Is. -Id.; wool in grease, if clean otherwise, lid. to le. Id.; locks pieces and bags from 3d. to Bd. per lb. On Thursday last Messrs. J. S. Macfarlane & Co. held a large sale of groceries, &c, ex ' Novelty,' and other arrivals. The sale was well attended, and the prices obtained were satisfactory to the importers. Yesterday Mr. Geo. Sibbin sold salt at £3 7s. Gd. per ton; potatoes £5 10s. to £G per ton; bacon 10} d. per lb.; flour, inferior, £14 10s. per ton. Messrs. Hidings & Dowden sold yesterday a largo consignment of earthenware, &c., at their mart, Queen-slreet. Tho sale was attended by a large number of the trade, and the figures realized were most satisfactory.

AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET. HESSES. STYAK AND HCXTEB'S WEEKLY BKFOET. Horses.—The show of horsee on Saturday though not more remarkable than ordinary as to numbers, was excellent in quality. Transactions were, however, not numerous in consequence of the high pretensions of owners, some of whom withdrew heavy draught horses at £90 and £100. Those of that class sold fetched £25 to £62. Saddle hacks £15 10s. to £19 15s. Fat Cattle.—The supply was not large, and there appeared no change in rates from the previous week. We quote bullocks at £13 to £17 2s. Gd ; cows £13 to £16 2s. Gd. Fat Sheep a>td Lambs.—These are also scarce, and the quality medium. "Wo sold sheep at 31s. to 385.; lambs 18s. 3d. to 225. Daisit aitd Store Cattle.—ln dairy cows we cro unable to quote prices. In store stock the market was well supplied, and the demand (owing most likely to renewed confidence on the part of settlers), was encouraging. AVc sold cows at £7 15s. to £10 55.; steers £7 2s. Gd. to £11 ; heifers £7 to £8 10s. Stobe Sueep asd Pigs.—None in the market.

cold. Pressed hay brought £10 per ton. At the Triangle, on Tuesday, there was a largo supply of cattle for grown stock ; lust week's prices were sustained, and young cattlc were bettor worth. Half-bred ewes with lambs at side brought 51s. tlio couple. Merir.o wethers, ex ' City of Melbourne,' from 21s. 6d. to 235. cach ; 150 head of cattle, 19G sheep, and 2 horses were sold.

At Newmarket, on Thursday, fat cattle were in fair supply; prices were lower; store cattle, no alteration. From Tuesday no good dairy cows in the market; rather a limited market of sheep; prices Is. to 2s. per head higher. Lambs in fair supply and brought previous rates.

At the Ilaymarket, on Friday, the Leicester rams bred by Mr. Grigg, showed to great disadvantage, owing to the continuous rain. They were fully equal to those of previous ycara, and were of very large size. 35 were sold, tho greater number for tho Southern Island. They brought from £5 15s. to £17, averaging each nine guineas.
