LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Thubsday, NOV. 19TH. The Speaker took the chair at two p.m.; eleven members were present. The minutes of proceeding meeting having been rend and confirmed, the lion. Mr. Wliitaker obtained leave to bring in a bill to enable the Governors of Nelson Colledge to sell or exchange certain trust property vested in them by an Act of the General Assembly of ?vew Zealand intituled the "Nelson College Trust Act, 1568." The lion. Major Richmond, C.8., brought up the report of the standing orders committee, and said it contained two amendments to the standing orders, one being to enable the Council to adjourn to a day other than tlie next sitting day, provided such day be a usual sitting day of the Council, and the other to the effect that- any Act passed not intended to come into immediate operation shall contain the date on which it snail become law. The Land Clauses Consolidation Bill was read a third time and passed. On the third reading of the Provincial Councils Powers Bill coming on, the lion. Mr. Whi taker proposed it be recommittee, as he intended to move a new clause n substitution of the second section. This "vas agreed to, and the bill read a third time and passed, and ordered to be transmitted to the other House, with a request that the amendment might be concurred in. Reports of Inspectors 011 Native Schools, and papers respecting a proposed National Shakspeare Memorial were laid 011 the table. 011 Friday (this day) Mr. Sewell will ask the Attorney-General, whether it is intended by the Government, to propose in the present session any alteration in the Militia Act or in the Colonial Defence Force Act, 1862 ; also, whether, in the event of the Settlements bill becoming law, it is intended to locate a settlement, in the district of the Thames, or neighbourhood, and if so, whether upon land belonging to friendly or neutral tribes.
