FOOD.
It is very important to know the probable quantity of wheat that will be grown for this market next year, and we should feel obliged if parties would provide us with a tolerably accurate account of the land under wheat cultivation.
We have heard it stated that we may expect 200 tons of wheat from New Plymouth, 200 tons from the East Coast, 400 from the Hutt, 150 from the Porirua, and 50 from Karori ; together 1,000 tons of wheat. If this statement approaches the truth at all, even with the great disadvantages under which we are labouring arising out of the state of the Land Question in this district, we shall produce more wheat than will be needed for our local consumption — enough indeed to supply the fisheries and coast stations as well as oar local consumption.
