Port Nicholson Agricultural Association. ■ THE FOLLOWING PRIZES will be given at the ensuing meeting of the Association,- 1 to be held at Mr. Hunter's Stockyard, TJeraro, on Thursday, the 28th day of March next — £ . d. 1. For the best bull of any breed.. 10 0 2. The best milch cow of any breed, the person shewing tostate the nature of her usual pasture, and the average quantity of milk and butter produced per week 1 o 0 3. The best heifer bred in the Colony, and whose sire'is now living in the district 0 15 0 4. The best ram of any breed ; if not bred in the Colony, to state the place from whence it came, and how long in this district 0 10 0 5. The best pen of three ewes, stating the breed, and it possible the -weight of last seasons clip 0 10 0 6. The best pen of three ewes, bred in the Colony, stating the breed of sire and dam, and if they are still in the district 0 10 0 7. For the stallion best calculated to improve the breed of saddle horses 10 0 8. For the stallion best calculated to improve the breed of draught horses 1 0 0 9. For the bpst mare 1 0 0 10. For the best sample of wheat, not being less than one bushel, stating the quantity grown, and as near as possible the produce per acrs; whether it is the first crop after clear<mg, or what crops preceded it; the weight of the bushel, at what 'period sown, and the method of planting ; the competitors are requested, if possible, to state the name of the different samples of grain 0 10 0 15. For the best specimen of potatoes, of not less than 14 Hi, grown from imported seed ; stating the kind, the district and nature of soil wheie grown, the method and time of planting and taking up, what quantity cf ground planted with the particular sort sown and the produce per acre, and whether manure had been used or not 0 5 0 18. For the highest dressed specimen of flax, of not less than 10 18, stating the cost of production per ton, and the manner of preparing it .... 1 0 0 The successful samples for the six last-mentioned prizes to remain the property of the Society. 20. To the shepherd who shall have reared the greatest per centage of lambs in anyone year, in this district, from not less than 100 ewes 1 0 0 21 . For the most approved account, in writing, of the best method of treating cattle and sheep affected by eatingtute. 0 10 0 22. The fullest account, in .writing, of the best method of clearing timbered land, and the expense of it, stating the district to which- the description applies *'. 0 10 0 23. Fullest account of the best rotation of crops on newly cleared land, and the method of putting them into the ground ....;.... 010 0 The above to be from the actual knowledge and experience of the persons giving the in-, formation . The last three prizes will be again offered at the next September meeting. .The competition will be open to Subscribers from any part of the Southern District, and the stock must, at the time of entry, be bona fide the property, and in the possession of, the party in whose' name they are entered. Cottagers and labouring- men farming not more than five- acres of land, and not being Subscribers, will be allowed to compete for prizes on payment of five shillings entrance. The Committee will appoint skilful persons to act as Judges, from whose decision there shall be no appeal. Parties intending to. compete for any of the above prizes, -must giye notice in.writing, to, the. Secretary, on or before Tuesday, the 26th day of March, at the same time giving all required particulars' as mentioned "above. The Committee to have power to withhold any prize which., in the opinion of the Judges, is not deserved.
