MUSKETS.

During the alarm consequent upon the' Wairau Massacre, large* numbers of muskets were given out to the Settlers. Inadvertently receipts for the same were not taken, and we are sorry to hear very many of them have been sold to the Natives. This act of dishonesty and rascality ought to be as severely punished as the law will sanction. It was unwise to distribute them so indiscriminately, but we hope some effort will now be made to call, them in again.

. The brig William Stoveld arrived yester* day from Auckland, having made the passage in four days, By this opportunity we .hive received an Auckland Chronicle of the 6th December. The only item of importance is that Flour is quoted from £30 to £35 per ton.
