Smith, and seconded by Samuel Revans, Esq., that a library and reading room be established, to be designated the " Port Nicholson General Library and Reading Room." Amendment proposed by H. St. Hill, Esq., and seconded by T. M. Partridge, Esq., that it be designated the " Port Nicholson Exchange and- Geaeral Library." (Carried.) Proposed by J. Crawford, Esq., and seconded by Captain Smith, that a Committee of "seven be formed at this meeting, to embody- a series of rules, and submit them to the kiext meeting.. (Carried.) Proposed by J. Crawford, Esq., and seconded by James Smith, Esq., that the committee consist of the following gentlemen, viz., Messrs. Murphy, Grace, R. R. Strang, Pai triage, John Wade, St. Hill, and Major Baker. (Carried.) Proposed by Major Baker, and seconded by H. St. Hill, Esq., that this meeting adjourn unto this day wees. (Carried.) -Proposed by Colonel Wakefield, and seconded by John Wade, Esq., that a vote of thanks be returned to Michael Murphy, Esq., for the very able manner in which he filled the chair. AT a public meeting held at Barrett's-hotel, Wellington, on Tuesday, the Ist Dec, 1840, for the purpose of considering the best means to be adopted for the formation of a Cattle Company, John Wade Esq., in the chair, It was proposed by J. Watt, Esq., seconded by R. R. Strang, Esq., that the Company be called ''The Port Nicholson Cattle Company." (Carried unanimously.) Proposed by J. Crawford, Esq., and seconded by J. Watt, Esq., that a Committee be appointed to prepare a Prospectus, and frame Rules to be submitted to a public meeting to be called for that purpose. (Carried unanimously.) . ■ Proposed by S. Revans, Esq., and seconded by Captain Smith, that Messrs. Crawford, Watt, and John Wade do form a Committee for carrying out the above named Resolutions. (Carried unanimously.) Proposed by James Smith, Esq., and seconded by Major Hornbrook, that this meeting do adjourn to Tuesday next, the Bth instant, after the meeting stppointed to take place at eleven o'clock at Barrett's Hotel.
