LETTER TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — I b?g of you to insert the following being my reply to what appeared in your valuable paper of the 31st ult. 1 deny that the north end of Port Nicholson harbour is safe anchorage for any vessel in a S.E. gale ; and as for " heedlessness '? on my part, I should wish it to be investigated before competent persons. I leave it to Mr. Partridge, a shareholder, who .was three months with me on the voyage round the Island, to say if he saw any '• heedlessness" in my conduct during that lime. Captain Hay, who has been agent for me when I was master of other, vessels, will give my character during that time to any person inquiring. Who steals my purse, steals trash ; 'tis something, nothing; 'Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to thousand! ; But he that filches from me my good name, Robs me of that which not enriches him, And makes me poor indeed. — Shakbpere. DANIEL MUNN. Britannia, Nov. 3, 1840.
