SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
We are informed that three steamers, of from 100 to 150 tons each, are now on their way hither from London, under canvass. — Adelaide Chronicle. , Mr. Gouger has retired from the office of Colonial Secretary, on account of ill health. Mr. Hall had suceeded as Acting Secretary; and Lieut. A. Munday succeeded Mr. Hall as Private Secretary, until Mr. Gouger's health be re-established. — Ibid. The Managership of the South Australian Company has been offered to Captain Sturt — Ibid. Bread. — We regret to say that this commodity has risen to 2s. 9d. the four pound loaf, and we fear that during the ensuing week we shall find it 3s. We observe that two spirited gentlemen, settlers on the Hunter, are about to import a large quantity of flour from America, and which must prove a seasonable supply for their neighbours. We wish some of our merchants would follow their example. — Port Phillip Patriot, May 21. " -, . A fresh vein of coal has been opened at Richmond, which is said to be of excellent quality. A large bed of rock salt has recently been discovered in the same districts. "The capabilities of this fine Island," says the 'Review,' "are daily more and more becoming developed." — Cornwall Chronicle. ,The exports from Launceston were last quarter £187,298, — they may be calculated for the .year at £750,000. The imports for the same quarter were £98,848, — which may likewise be calculated for the year at £400,000. .The duties and wharfage for the same quarter were £9130, — equal to £36,500 for the year, — Ictd.
