A number of the leading newspapers of the Dominion have just been rather rudely awakened to the existence __ of a rule of law which forbids publication of a statement of claim (or even extracts from it) before the action comes on for trial. They are being called on to show cause why in each case the printer and publisher should not be committed for contempt of Court. This trouble has arisen owing to the publication 6f some details _ of a statement of claim in an action is to be heard in Auckland affecting the credit of a large company there. * * * * Mrs Vernon Castle has signed a contract to appear in Paramount Pictures.

A piece of news of interest to movie patrons is that the Famous, Player sCompany and the Hearst Company of film producers have united or the purpose of producing special, features from the works of the world's greatest writers. The deal is said toinvolve £1,000,000. The pictures,, which will be released through the Famous Players-!Lasky Corporation,, will be known as "The Cosmopolitan Productions.". During this year nine special features and at least two sup-er-features will be produced by the new organisation. The. first production' under this arrangement will bG thefilm version of Robert W.
