Said a critical spinster to a wounded Highlander: "In my opinion, those kilts of yours scarcely can be considered gentlemanly." "And yet," answered Donald, "the Huns scarcely consider them ladylike. Onyhoo, they rin like hell when they see them comin'." * . * •» # The "boys" from Trentham and Featherston and all other military camps are taking a very keen interest in the Trentham Scholarships Art Union, which, as almost everyone knows by this time, has for its object the provision of scholarships for the children of killed and disabled soldiers and sailors. During the race days the soldiers alone collected over £700 in the sale of art union tickets. The public has taken this appeal to their hearts, and the splendid prizes are attracting the "sports." Assuredly the chances of winning a .very substantial prize are unusually attractive when it is considered that amongst them are several thousand sheep, motor cars, grand pianos, fur coats, furniture, and a host of other valuable and desirable commodities. The tickets are on sale throughout the Dominion and there is no difficulty in obtaining as many as desired.
