THE LATE MR. "JACK" HENRYS.

In the Geraldine Cup, of one mile and a-quarter, the Wellington-owned Rose Pink has been allotted 8.0. If she doesn't incur a penalty at Ashburton she won't be overweighted. Mr. G. D. Greenwood's Gloaming, by the Welkin—Light, made a. sensational debut by winning the Chelmsford Stakes, of 700 soys, at Sydney on Saturday. There was a field of 21, and the win of Gloaming was rendered the more meritorious owing to haying lost some lengths by slipping during the progress of the race. INotwithstanding this he put up an Australasian record, covering the distance in lmin 52sec. Estland was among the starters. In the Flying Handicap at Otaki some speedy ones are engaged, amongst them being Demos (7.10, and Bairnsdale (7.0). The Dominion Day Handicap is run over one mile,, which should suit such horses as Mystified (7.3) and Matatua (7.12). The Tatimi Steeplechase, two. miles and a-quarter, has a good field engaged.. Well-seasoned and proficient chasers accepted for are Gaekwar (Iz.iJ), and Foeman (11.8). The principal event on the programme is the Memorial Stakes, of 400 sovs, one mile. Should the going be. good clinking time should be registered with such speedy horses as Form Up (9.0), and Hydrus (7.4) to keep the neld busy. The Stewards' Hack Handicap, six furlongs, should see a stirring contest. Goomg (8.3) and Idle Talk (7.6) are capable of setting a strong pace. The Kereihi Roera Welter, of seven furlongs, has Sweet Tipperary for topweight with 9.9, and, should Messrs. DwaxL Bros, elect to start the black mare in this race instead of the Memorial Stakes, she should be ablet to show her sprinting powers. tion (8.12) and Sardinia (8.4) appear to be nicely handicapped. The biggest field is in the Welte<r Hack Handicap, which is run over seven furlongs. Utiwai in the last effort ran third. Lady Edith is not harshly treated with 8.2. At Egmont, in the Hunters Flat Handicap, one mil© and a distance, there are a number of horses engaged who have proved themselves very fast on the fiat, 6uch as Bollin (11.10) and Flying Camp (12.10). The Tongahoe Hurdles, one mil© and ar-half, should prove a good contest, as

some Well-seasoned, horses like Golden Grafton (10.0) and Lord Ainslie (10.12) are running. The North Taranaki Hunt Club Cup, about three miles, has also a good acceptance. The distance, should suit Kurilalpi, who has 11.4 to r carry, and Bollin, if not started in the Jumpers' Flate, with 11.8. In Tawhiti Handicap, six furlongs, Rewi Poto is in his top place with 9.0. Glenroy, with 7.13,.has had a lot of racing, although a bit unlucky in his last three starts. Starengo has . been expected to show form for some time, and is not over-burdened with 7.10. They are a mixed lot out for the jewellery in the Ladies' Bracelet, Lady Renown amongst them. Meltchikoff has 8.2 in the Meßae Memorial, run over a mile and a-quar-ter. Depredation (9.0) will probably go out favourite. In the Telegraph Handicap, of five furlongs, some slippery customers are engaged. Occasion has 7.0 and Stacatto 9.5.
