"The School Journal" for September is as interesting as usual. Part 11. continues tlie series of articles on the "Birds of New Zealand" with particulars about the, hula and the wry-billed plover. Part 111. continues the series on the "Industries of New Zealand/ 7, dealing this month with cocoa, chocolate, and sweets. Caramels, it is stated, are made of a> mixture of cornflour, sugar, corn-syrup, and flavourings, and after being boiled and rolled out are cut into squares on a machine. Another machine wraps the squares in paper at the rate of 80 a minute. There is even a machine for making "kisses" and wrapping them up.
