PROTEST FROM THE WELLINGTON LICENSED VICTUALLERS 1 ASSOCIATION.

A REPLY:

Tlie Brohibitiori Party has no apologies to offer for the Kamerad cartoon. It is content to be j n the company of Great Britain's great Prime Minister, Lloyd George, who classed the Liquor Trade with Germany and Austria, and said it was worse than either of them. The Pro-, hibition Party is delighted at the official attestation to the personality of the Trade, since it : proves our case without dretad of refutation, and makes plain the path for the Prohibition [Reform. Heretofore the Trade has been amorphous, elusive, averse to coming into the open," hiding itself behind high-sounding names such as "Moderate League," "Liberty League," National Council of New Zealand," etc., etc. At length we havet the official portrait of the Trade certified by the Licensed Victuallers' Association in a beery-looking person, labelled "Boose." When it is added that the dictionary definition of the word "boose" is "to drink excessively," and that the manifest purposei of "boose" is to manufacture ' 'boosers''—again quoting the dictionary, a "booser" is '.'one who drinks to excess, a tippler"—it will be patent to the. simplest mind that this resolution of the Licensed Victuallers' Association admits and establishes all that the most ardent Prohibitionist claims as reason for demanding the destruction and annihilation of the Drink Traffic in this Dominion.—(Published by Arrangement.)
