With a view to encouraging native talent the Editor invites amateur artists to submit original topical cartoons of an amusing nature suitable for publication in the next issue of the New Zealand Frisk Lance Christmas Annual. Any that are accepted will be paid for. Similar encouragement is offered for photos illustrative of Maori life, and preferably humorous phases thereof. The latest date for submitting either cartoons or photos is October 10.'

TO STORY-TELLERS. The Editor of the New Zealand Free Lance Christmas Annual will be pleased to receive short original stories or skits in verse, and any that are considered worthy of publication in the Annual will be paid for. Rejected MSS will be returned if accompanied by stamps for postage. Value will be attached to the following features: — Humour and satire, novelty of incident or plot, originality, New Zealand characters and atmosphere. For short stories O. Henry is recommended as a good model. '
