DRAMATIC AND MUSICAL

By FoQtlight.

" The House of Glass.'' A. LL arrangements are now complete for the appearance of Miss Florence . Rockwell, the brilliant • emotional .actress, who will make her first appearance here on Tuesday next at the Grand Opera House under the J. C. "Williamson management as Margaret. Case in Max Margin's absorbing play, "The House of Glass." In this part Miss Rockwell has been singularly successful. Both New York and London have set the seal of approval upon her performance. The ; play moreover created a marked impression recently in Melbourne and Sydney. * a- "'. .*■ ..• a .'• "The House of Glass" is said to be the finest and most moving drama since "Within the Law," a play to which, although entirely different, it is most often compared-. This should invest it with "more than the usual interest. The story makes a fine, absorbing tale. It is based on an incident of real life. A falsely-accused girl breaks her parole when released from gaol. Her relentless, pursuit by the law and the tragedy of despair that threatens her years afterwards when she has happiness and forgetfulness, provides material for a play more powerful, wholesome, and humanly than any that has been written since "Within the Law." The Company is a strong one, with Mr. Frank Harvey as leading man. He will be remembered as the nonchalant Englishman in "The Man Who Stayed at Home." "The House of Glass" will be played for the first four nights, and will be succeeded by W. Somerset Maugham's delightful play,. "The Land of Promise," the season terminating with> a three nights' performance of "The Law of the Land." The box plans for the nine nights' season are now open at The Bristol. The brilliant comedy-drama, "Turn to the Right," which is now being presented with immense success at the King's Theatre, Melbourne, by A. and J.; Tait, had registered its one hundred and sixtieth performance in New York at, the close of last year, and was expected to remain a leading attraction for several months to come. » * * ■» Miss Margaret Calvert, who scores a great hit as Mrs, Baseoni in "Turn to the Right," is an actress of sterling ability, who has appeared with many famous managers in England, America, and South Africa. She is an Oxfordshire lady and came to the Commonwealth when 2% years old on a sailing ship commanded by her father. The. "Turn to the Right" Company also includes a distinguished Shakespearian interpreter in the person of Stapleton Kent, the clever young actor, who makes Gilly such a figure in the comedy; *». . # # "Fair and Warmer," now running in Sydney under the J. C. Williamson management, iB the tale of the revenge of a model husband and a neglected wife, who conspire together to make trouble for their nartners. They achieve this object by endeavouring to make them jealous.
