A big National Reserve Rally is to be held at the Town Hall next Wednesday evening, when a war lecture will be delivered by Mr. T.M. Wilford,M;P. The proceeds from the lecture are for the maintenance fund of the different groups of the Wellington National Reserve. The Reserve, which has been in existence for two years, is entirely dependent upon subscriptions by its members. Those keen patriots who form the administrative staff for the Do- = minion have served without pay or allowances of any kind. The Reserve has done and is still doing splendid work in the way nof borne defence'.; Being in need of funds it is ; for this reason that the Rally is being held. The co-operation and attendance of the public are sought and the appeal should evoke a hearty response. A notice concerning the parade of National Reserve members appears in another column. - Members of the Women's National Reserve are also invited to attend. «• ■#-."* « The Germans interned on Somes Island played high jinks on the Kaiser's birthday., when they held, a form of military sports. Cardboard was brought into, requisition for the manu- • facture-of helmets, and wooden guns were shouldered as the "goose-step" was performed'to the amusement of those on guard, excellent music being supplied by the interned "leetle Yarman Band." Mock court trials were held, the wealthier "residents" being fined in sums varying from two to three shillings for varying offences, the proceeds being devoted to the cost of two cases of ginger-beer that had been received for the purpose of drinking the Kaiser's health.
