Two artists who have been popular with Australasian- playgoers for some years will shortly leave for America to seek a wider scope in the profession. Miss Beatrice Holloway has played a long series of ingenue roles in Australasia, and in South Africa she gained great success in a repertoire of comedies under the J. C. For. a quarter of a century thev were frequently visiting New Zealand, with stock, companies. . Another of the> Deorwyn sisters (Constance) became Mrs. Dick Stewart. * * * * The promoters, committee, and, helpers responsible for the gala held last December in aid of the Returned Soldier's' Club Appeal Fund are to be congratulated on the splendid financial result of their laudable efforts. The total receipts, including £149 from Sir Ernest Shackleton's lecture in the Town Hall, were £2337, and the expenses were kept within such reasonable limits that a balance of £2192 is left. This amount has been paid over to the trustees of the fund. A copy, of the balance-sheet appears elsewhere' in this issue. « ■» ' * . e We have received copies of the Feb'ruary numbers of "The School Journal" (three grades), and note how well the Editor does his work. .The contents are .up-to-date, and are admirably adapted to interest and instruct the youthful mind.
